WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® MARCH White Ribbon White Ribbon is a campaign led by men who condemn violence against women, and take action. It offers men the opportunity to be part of the solution to end violence against women. In New Zealand, one in three women are victims of violence from a partner, while on average fourteen women are killed each year by a member of their own family. Each year, Wairarapa businesses, community organisations, families and individuals participate in White Ribbon Day activities to raise awareness of the campaign. Men are particularly encouraged to take part as we know the vast majority of men do not condone violence towards women and children. It is these men that are able to encourage others to seek help. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® March This year, we are holding a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event. This international men's march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious impacts of men's violence against women. You can learn more at www.walkamileinhershoes.org Walkers can enter as individuals, as a team, or as a workplace, business or community group

The Route Dress attire There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it's fun and it gets the community to talk about something that's really difficult to talk about: gender relations and men's violence against women. Alternatively, you can walk in a pair of women’s ‘flat’ shoes, sandals or jandals if you would like to march but feel you can’t manage the heels due to injury etc. The important thing is that men participate to show their support. You can also create a ‘White Ribbon’ themed costume or dress in your team uniform/t-shirts etc. There will be spot prizes for best dressed entrants. The march starts from the corner of Queen Street and Worksop Road, Masterton (beside Countdown), and moves north to Perry Street before turning west to Chapel Street. Using the pedestrian crossing at the corner of Chapel and Perry Streets, the march finishes at the Masterton Town Square (approx 400m). Walkers are to meet at the start point at 12.00pm with the march starting at 12.15pm.
